Allow me to introduce you to Ms. Khadijah Laidford, I had the pleasure of meeting her a few weeks ago  at an event I attended. Ms. Khadijah Laidford is a 24-year-old New York native that moved to Charlotte NC in 2015. Shortly after her arrival, Khadijah started her career in law enforcement where she gained hands-on experience working with juvenile teens. Khadijah’s time as a correctional officer is when she realized that she wanted to be more involved with helping the youth. Thereon strategizing and brainstorming on the many ways, Khadijah came up with an idea that she wanted to start a nonprofit for at-risk youth, where she would provide youth with mentoring and advocacy. Shortly after in October of 2017 Future Growth Development (also known as FGD) was birthed. From then, Khadijah understood that she was on a mission to provide the essentials to the disenfranchised youth in her community.

Since 2017 FGD has put together many community events such as the “Powerful Leadership Nonprofit Conference” where the community came together to hear the point of view of youth and their concerns. In 2019 FGD launched its pilot program called “Growth Training 101” where youth unify together on Saturday’s and are exposed to financial literacy, conflict resolution, time management, and entrepreneur readiness trainings and workshops. FGD, also uses their annual Gala’s to honor the youth in the community who are creating change and working on breaking the “status quo.” On upcoming May, 23 2020 FGD is calling the Queen City out to assist with celebrating the launching their first annual “Rock the Block” which mission is to expose and bring together the community to educate on health and wellness, while creating an environment to lower the crime rate. Khadijah is one of the so many other millennials who are fighting for equal rights for our youth and families, and she is using her nonprofit Future Growth Development as her platform to do it!

She is currently looking for  Community Resource vendors & small business vendors that’s looking to promote/sell their products for “Rock The Block”   Vendor fees $80 from now until April 1st! Register on the EventBrite Rocktheblockclt.eventbrite.com
